Introduction to Holophon’s Zoom Workshop Series
Hey! Do you want to learn MORE about holophon's workshop series? How about attending... Introduction to Holophon’s Zoom Workshop Series. You are invited to a one hour informal presentation on our upcoming workshop series. We’ll go through all the workshops and give a brief description of each one. We may even do a little jamming on the side...

Streaming Audio for Collaboration and Performance - Ernie Dulanowsky
Restrictions necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic have made gathering for performances and collaboration all but impossible. To continue fostering such relationships artists have taken to creating their own livestreams to deliver performances. This workshop will endeavour to provide some insight into how to set up a livestream using software and hardware tools, and how to publish that stream to various services. Additionally, software tools that can enable collaboration, or jamming will be discussed and demonstrated. You may want to install the jamulus streaming software - https://jamulus.io - to participate in the interactive parts of this workshop.

(extra)Ordinary Sounds & ASMR - Hilarey Cowan
Join us in exploring the wonderful world of ASMR (Auto Sensory Meridian Response) with a focus on sounds from everyday objects found in our immediate environment. Session will include an overview of the field, listening, as well as some collective exploration and sharing. Participants are invited to have a few objects on hand with which to experiment with.

Analog Loops: Making Tape Loops with a Reel-to-reel Tape Recorder - Will Kaufhold
Analog Loops is a beginners educational tutorial designed for those interested in analog recording, experimental music, and sound art. In this two-hour workshop, you will learn how to cut and splice together 7” inch reel-to-reel tape, feed tape loops into a reel-to-reel recorder, and create ‘sound on sound’ loops. This workshop will provide you with the knowledge you need to create endless loops of sound using a reel-to-reel that can be manipulated and modified.

Ableton Live for Beginners - Greta Peart (ygretz)
Ableton Live for Beginners will introduce the participants to the software and provide insight into music production. We will learn how to record midi, edit audio, and learn about different effects and devices. This workshop is aimed to introduce beginners to the world of music production. Tech Requirements: A computer, headphones, and a sufficient internet connection are required. Ableton Live 10 or 11 is recommended but not necessary.

Ableton: Working with Sampling and Drumracks - David Roman
This workshop will take you through a comprehensive overview of Ableton's rich percussive capabilities specifically using Drum Rack and Simpler in tandem with Ableton's effects plug-ins  David will demonstrate how to create basic beats and percussive lines within the Drum Rack ecosystem while using Ableton's sampling and editing capabilities to achieve completely customized results.  This will include a discussion surrounding effectively using Drum Rack's built-in audio effects chains.  This will be tailored to those with at least some basic knowledge of Digital Audio Work Stations and with some specific interest in Ableton Live.

Introduction to Nano Sense Arduino (Part 1) - Ian Campbell
This is an introduction to the arduino and what it can do for artists. No experience necessary. Participants will learn the basics of what the arduino is, what it can do and where to order them from. Special attention will be paid to the brand new Arduino Nano Sense. This new board contains built in sensors and a larger memory so it can be used for a variety of tasks including Machine Learning projects. Participants can order an nano Sense in time for Part 2 of this workshop.

Introduction to Nano Sense Arduino (Part 2) - Ian Campbell
This is a continuation of Part 1 of this arduino workshop. To get the most out of this workshop, participants might want to purchase an Arduino Nano Sense board (https://store.arduino.cc/usa/nano-33-ble-sense). We will be looking at this brand new Arduino and what it can do. This new board contains a series of interesting sensors, we will try them out by running various demo programs and discuss how it could be integrated into your artistic practice - sound based or otherwise.

Your Ear Is A Microscope: "Sound object" manipulation for all - Adam Basanta
What is a "sound object"? How can this concept be useful in experimental music composition, film sound, game sound design, and beyond? Emphasizing practical, conceptual, and experiential (rather than a purely technical) approaches, the workshop will cover a range of methods for working with recorded sound in the digital domain, from classic tape manipulation techniques and experimental EQ, through digital micro-editing and advanced plug ins, and culminating in the construction of "composite" sound blocks. The entire workshop will focus - following the metaphor of a microscope - on a single sound sample, and the ability to construct rich sound structures out of simple building blocks. The workshop is intended for intermediate to advanced levels. Beginners to sound are welcome if they are familiar with a DAW.

What's The Deal With MIDI? (MIDI for Dummies) - Ernie Dulanowsky
Have you ever wondered 'What's the deal with MIDI?' How can I use MIDI to control my keyboards? What else can MIDI do? What does MIDI even mean? This workshop will try to demystify MIDI by showing how to control hardware and software synths from controllers and computers, and even mobile devices. Attendees must have a computer, a audio/MIDI interface, and possibly a MIDI-capable hardware synth.
